Bébé Deux Week 22 Update

Today's date: July 30, 2013

How far along: 22 Weeks

Total weight gain: 5 pounds

Size and growth of baby: David is the size of a papaya! He is settling into sleep cycles, snoozing about 12 to 14 hours a day. It's easy to figure out the pattern as those kicks begin to start and stop around the same time :) (Looks like a night-owl just like his mama!) {via}

Baby is a: boy!

Maternity clothing: All clothing, except a few shirts, are maternity.

Sleep: I wish I could nap better, but night time sleeping is good. Even if I wake up to go to the bathroom, I can fall back asleep easily.

Movement: Lots of movement, though he does favor rolling to kicking for now!

Cravings/Aversions: My main cravings this past week were chocolate (specially brownies and Reese's cereal), onion rings, fruit rolls ups, and mustard. Aversions are about the same, though I can eat just about anything.

Morning Sickness: I only had one Zofran this whole week! Hurray!

Symptoms: Round ligament pain if I get up too fast, lower back pain, nesting, a few extra pimples, gas, movement, heartburn, some nausea, peeing a fair amount, and tired.

Labor Signs: None

Belly button in or out: In

How this pregnancy is different than the first: I had lost more weight with Jillian and had to take Zofran every single day in order to keep food down. I have more heartburn with this pregnancy, and it feels like I have more ligament pain which is surprising to me.

The best moment of this past week: Being home, nesting around the house, and hearing his heartbeat today!

What I miss: Nothing at all :)

I'm looking forward to: The next appointment, and seeing my folks soon.

This is the first week I can do weekly bump comparisons of just David! What a difference :)

Bébé Deux's Name

I mentioned in this post that we already picked the name David as Bébé Deux's first name. It took some time to officially decide on his middle name. Now, we have our final decision! Bébé Deux will be known as:
David Anthony

When we were first talking about names, we originally wanted to honor both of our fathers. The problem is, we both come from large families. That being said, there were lots of Jameses, and Michaels in the family already. If we were having a girl, we would have named her Charlotte since it is the feminine form of my dad's first name, Charles. Since David is clearly a boy, we needed a new plan. We decided before too long that we would just bite the bullet and do a double name. We were talking about names we really like for boys, and which ones just felt right. When I brought up David, it was almost an immediate yes for both of us. With that in mind, we decided to go with James Michael David.

The problem then became, do we use two first names or two middle names? If David was the last of the three names, how would people know that's the one he goes by? By the time I was through my first trimester, we talked and decided that the name we had chosen would just be a little too much for him. So, we decided to stick with David as the first name, but come up with a new middle name.

We had a short list that we liked, then we asked my father for some name suggestions. True to form, my dad gave us both a fun/joke list, and a serious list of name suggestions. Two of his suggestions were some main competitors in our quest to decide on the perfect name. However, we just felt like Anthony fit the best. Plus, now he has a middle name that starts with "A" just like his daddy :)

I did make a deal with Phil that he could ultimately decide David's name if that means I get to ultimately decide the middle name of our next son. {That's if we have another son. We could have another girl for all I know!} Of course, the other gets to veto any choices we really dislike.

That's how we came up with David's name! Nothing significant besides the names just feeling right. We can't wait to meet him face to face! I found the meaning of his names here.

David - Beloved

Anthony - Priceless

And for something fun, I will explain his nickname: little tomato. {My mom asked so I thought I'd explain to y'all too!} Back in 2010, my former-coworkerladyma'am introduced me to a group called Pink Martini. I got two of their albums from her, and listened to them a lot that summer. When I had my ectopic pregnancy, something inside me always told me I was carrying a girl. {Of course, my mother's intuition was wrong on both counts of my children, but that's just how I felt.} We originally talked about the name Lilly for a girl. Once we figured out I would lose the baby, I felt the lyrics to the song "Lilly" by Pink Martini really fit how I felt. I really wanted her to stay with me, but she had to go because it was meant to be.

Well, one of the albums, (and songs), by Pink Martini is called "Hang on Little Tomato". When I found out about my pregnancy with David, we were leaving for Minnesota in a matter of days. I couldn't get to the doctor to confirm and get reassurance about it not being ectopic until after we returned. With that in mind, I would rub my belly every night and say "hang on little tomato!" I told bébé how much I loved them, and promised to do everything I could to make sure they were good and healthy if they promised to keep growing and hang on. After everything looked perfect at the doctor, the nickname just kind of stuck :) That's why he's my little tomato!

Mission Trip Vlog

I thought a vlog would be the best way to talk about my mission trip last week. It's about 9 minutes long, so don't feel like you have to watch the whole thing :)

Bébé Deux Week 21 Update

Today's date: July 23, 2013

How far along: 21 Weeks

Total weight gain: After my mission trip, I gained about 2 pounds. However, that may stay steady now that I'm not starving all the time ;)

Size and growth of baby: David is the size of a pomegranate! His digestive system is busy creating meconium, (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion, and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth :) {via}

Baby is a: handsome boy!!

Maternity clothing: All clothing, except a few shirts, are maternity.

Sleep: I actually slept relatively well for being on a cot for a mission trip! I am sleeping more soundly in my own bed, but my Snoogle pillow really helped me get a good night's rest. I don't always wake up to pee in the middle of the night, but when I do, I can usually get back to sleep quickly. Even if I'm tired, I can't always nap :-/

Movement: I can actually watch his kicks now! Most of my trip, David would only move right before bed. Now, he moves more at night, but will also kick during the day here and there :)

Cravings/Aversions: My main cravings this past week were real food! Hahaha But really, I think Rice Krispies Treats were my main one. Aversions are about the same, though meats are easier to eat now.

Morning Sickness: I only took Zofran three times this past week. I am so proud of myself!!

I feel more relaxed with this pregnancy in terms of letting myself do more, (like go on the mission trip). That could just be because this is my second go round ;)

The best moment of this past week: Enjoying the fun parts of my mission trip, bonding with the youth girls and adults from church, and getting home to my family!

What I miss: Nothing at all :)

I'm looking forward to: The next appointment on the 30th, catching up with my friends after being gone awhile, and hopefully seeing my folks in the next month!

Bébé Deux Week 20 Update

Today's date: July 16, 2013

How far along: 20 Weeks! Halfway to D-Day :)

Total weight gain: I'm still at a loss of 2-2.5 pounds overall.

Size and growth of baby: Bébé is the size of a banana! Bébé weighed about 10 oz at our ultrasound on July 10th, which is right about on track. He is working on taste buds, and is swallowing much more amniotic fluid than before :) {via}

Baby is a: bouncing baby boy!!

Maternity clothing: All clothing, except a few shirts, are maternity.

Sleep: It's hard falling asleep lately, but I am out once I finally do. I may wake up if Jillian coughs or if I need to switch sides. Naps are harder to come by lately because I have so much to do.

Movement: More movements this week, especially after certain foods and drinks. Little bugger was breech at our ultrasound this week so most of the movement is pretty low.

Cravings/Aversions: My main cravings this past week were strawberries, and Chick-fil-A. Aversions are the same, though meats are easier to eat now.

Morning Sickness: I actually don't have to take Zofran every single day now! I do have to late at night every so often, but it's getting better.

Symptoms: Round ligament pain, lower back pain, nesting, a few extra pimples, gas, movement, heartburn, some nausea, peeing a fair amount, and tired.

Labor Signs: None

Belly button in or out: In

How this pregnancy is different than the first: I was sicker, and had lost more weight with Jillian at this point. I am carrying lower than I did with Jillian. David seems to roll around more than kick, which is the opposite of Jillian. I feel calmer and less emotional this time around as well.

The best moment of this past week: Learning and revealing the gender of bébé deux, and leaving for our church mission trip.

What I miss: Nothing at all :)

I'm looking forward to: Getting home from the mission trip, our next appointment, and counting the days I get to see my folks again!

But I Know What It Feels Like

This post is going to be awfully vulnerable and hard for me, but I really want to finally say it out loud. I got permission for my daughter ...
