David: {18 Months}

David –

You are 18 months old today! It’s hard to believe you’re just as close to your second birthday as you are to your first. According to our home measurements, you are 24 lbs, 2 oz and 31-1/4 inches long. When you have your 18 month check up in a few days, I'll update with your official stats :) Update: You are 23 lbs, 9 oz and 31-3/4 inches long!

You wear 12/18 Month, and 18 Month clothes, and size 3-4 in shoes. Some small clothes can fit, but they are a little tight. You wear size 4 Luvs or Pampers Cruisers brand diapers for the daytime and Huggies Overnight for bed.

Eating is overall good. You'd prefer to graze all day long, so meals are usually hard with you. You don't like sitting for long periods of time. I'm sure it's just because you want to explore! You are served 3 meals and 2 snacks every day. Anything that resembles food or would hold food inside, you look it over in case you can sneak another snack in. I can count on one hand the number of food you refuse to eat. You eat most of what we do, and you try and like more new foods than I would ever expect! Some of your favorite foods are: crackers, fruit snacks, broccoli, fresh fruit, hummus, bread, and donuts. You drink whole milk or water out of a Camelbak straw sippy cup. You can drink from a regular cup with a straw. We haven't tried without a straw simply because you're a little on the messy-on-purpose side ;)

You have 12 teeth, and are still working on your canines. I'm sure those hurt, but we'll be done until your 2 year molars once they come! You take teething pretty well. Sometimes you've had them come in 3 or 4 at a time, which would spike a fever/crankiness. However, it is pretty understandable!

You are much more active now that you're a good walker! You have to run more than walk to keep up with sister. You had this bouncy little step when you're in a hurry that is the cutest thing!. Climbing is starting to cross your mind, and I really am starting to think that the two of us will be in the ER for injuries. Please be careful LT! You love waving goodbye, and blowing kisses to everyone, and usually don’t mind giving hugs to anyone who asks for one. You give me kisses, and you have the sweetest smile :) You just started to fake hiccup, and it is hilarious! You also started getting into books after your 15 month birthday. You will bring books to me all day long. It makes me so happy that you like books! You can point out your head, toes, mouth, nose, ears, and eyes. You like the song "Head and Shoulders," but you really just love having people sing to you!

Sleep is great! You very rarely ever fight sleeping in your crib for nap time or bed. You have a harder time sleeping in a pack n play or the car seat. If you are not in your crib in your room, you really fight it. However, when you finally get to sleep, you're out for at least an hour. Most days, you will take a 2-1/2 to 3 hour nap! We will be getting rid of you pacifier soon, so this may all change. However, once we get a handle on this pacifier thing, I think sleep will still be a favorite pastime of yours.

You are a pretty quiet boy. You say a few words, but you mostly point, and grunt. We are trying to help you use your words, but you are suddenly showing your stubborn side! Don't worry, you come by it honestly ;) You may start using more words once the pacifier is history. We're not super worried though. When we talk to you, you understand exactly what we're saying. It looks like you're doing what sister did, and you're just choosing to not talk until you know 100% you can. We've got time, my boy!

We are working out two family trips to go on this summer. You traveled to Wisconsin and back pretty well! I think you and your sister just like to have places to stretch your legs on a regular basis. We'll do what we can when the time comes :) You finally broke your streak and threw up for the first time in mid-April. Either you have a really strong stomach, or that was a bad stomach bug! I personally think it's the strong stomach! We did celebrate Easter in our normal, everything-is-crazy-and-we're-going-90-to-nothing way. You did a great job being a church most of the week leading up to Easter. Due to the wet and chilly weather, you and sister were half of the kiddos hunting for eggs after service. You did have a good time! However, we did have to keep you from eating the gravel on the playground.

We've had a very active May in terms of tornadoes. You showed us you're adaptable in those kind of situations! You not only will watch or go in a room we need you too, you also think your helmet is the coolest thing. I had to make you take it off one night! Also, thunder never seems to wake you enough that you cry, even in the middle of the night.

David, you are one fantastic dude. When I think of you as a baby, I get a little choked up because you have grown up so fast! You are a true joy, even when you're being your cranky old-man self sometimes. I cannot imagine our family without you, and I'm so blessed to call you mine. We love you bug! :)

But I Know What It Feels Like

This post is going to be awfully vulnerable and hard for me, but I really want to finally say it out loud. I got permission for my daughter ...
