David: {3 Years}

David –

You are 3 years old today! It is amazing to me that we are here. I feel like you're still my little baby boy. You have grown in so many ways this year! According to our at home measurements, you are 31 lbs, 4 oz and 37 inches long. {EDIT: As of 1/19/17, you are 32 lbs 0 oz, and 37-1/2 inches long. That is 5 lbs 0 oz heavier, & 4-1/2 inches longer than at 2 years old, and 25 lbs, 0 oz heavier, & 18 inches longer than at birth!}

You wear 3T clothes, with a few 2T that still fit ok. You wear size 3T-4T pull ups. You currently wear size 9 shoes, but could probably fit into size 8 if you didn't have socks.

Eating is ok for the most part. You're not terribly picky, but you change your mind frequently which can be a pain. You're enjoying more foods, but eating less overall. You are the most iffy about eating meat, no matter what it is or how it's flavored. We can usually get you to eat bacon though ;) If you're not in the mood to eat, or just feel like being argumentative, we leave an opened snack for you that you'll eventually pick up and eat. I think you're just too busy playing to bother eating. We did discover that you need a bedtime snack before bed. If you don't get one, you would periodically throw up a little acid/bile. I read up on it, and it seems like your body just needed something to digest. Ever since we started giving you a small bedtime snack, it has not happened again!

You have all your teeth! You get to see the dentist for the first time next month. I'm not sure you'll like it, but we'll keep a hopeful attitude.

Sleep at night is great, but daytime is iffy. You usually accidently fall asleep either in the car or on the couch, and you wake up really mad. I'm not sure if you're mad that you fell asleep or that you're awake. Either way, you are usually pretty grouchy. When you got to bed, you usually crash quickly. You sleep for about 10 hours straight. You're not a morning person, (like mama), so breakfast is a 50/50 chance of a good mood or bad. You're usually ready to have breakfast and be left alone. You have the occasional night terror, which is sad :( It has not happened in awhile, but it's scary because you just scream, and we're not supposed to wake you. Thankfully, you don't have any memory of these episodes.

You started the Mini-3's class at preschool, and you just LOVE it. You are so smart! You already know the alphabet, your shapes, numbers, colors, and most of what Miss Barbara and Miss Lori teach you. You apparently even correct the other kids if they get something wrong during circle time! HAHAHA You want school to be everyday, and you really love Tuesdays when you get to take your lunch for extended day. You tell us that Miss Barbara and Miss Rose (the music teacher), are your best friends. You cry when I pick you up from school, and get upset if Sissy gets to go to school on your off days. I'm SO glad you love school this much. We were not sure how you'd do since you've never been exposed to a classroom setting like your big sister did prior to starting preschool. However, you've just taken off and are doing so well!

Speech has improved dramatically! You went from saying a decent group of words, to speaking full sentences. Your words are not always clear, and you get frustrated when you have to repeat yourself multiple times. However, you are doing so well, and we are proud of you! You can also point to and name most body parts when asked.

Personality wise, you are a sweet and caring boy that is incredibly flirtatious! When asked who you play with at school, you say "All the sissies" (sisters, so all the girls). You also join groups of women and say things like "Hello ladies!" You are just a ham, and you love doing Snapchat filter pictures and videos with mommy. You are pretty stubborn, and will NOT do something if asked right away. You do sometimes, but you'd rather question and see what you can get away with instead of obeying right away. You don't like loud noises and will cover your ears if you think things are too loud. You also ask us to "not say 'Yay!'" if you don't want us to cheer. You love getting "lots of kisses" from mommy, being picked up and wrestling with daddy, making faces, singing songs, and dancing around. You crack us up with the things you say and do! You tell us all the time that Sissy, (Jillian), is your best friend. We hope you feel the same way about Lottie too :) You've also finally warmed up to Olive. If you're not in the mood, you'll get mad at her for licking you. Otherwise, you like to be around her 90% of the time :)

You are all boy, mister! You love to climb, jump, run, and just be in the middle of the action. You chase animals and play on the playground with absolutely no fear. You get lots of scrapes, bumps, and bruises, but usually a hug and kiss from mama makes it all better.

Potty Training has come to a halt. You were doing well, but suddenly lost all interest. We're not pushing you yet, but will definitely be mentioning it to your pediatrician when we go in February. You've got the routine down, you just don't want to do it. We'll get there :)

Some of your nicknames are: Davey, Davey Boy, Bud, LT, and Mister Man.

Things you love: Cookies, Mickey Mouse, school, friends, playing outside, being with Big Sissy, opening Olive's kennel door, closing the door to the mini-van, being the driver of the van (sitting in the driver seat when it's off), running, playing with your friends, singing, Shopkins, Scooby Doo, climbing, playing in Jemma and Gee-Chaz's basement, Skyping with Jemma and Gee-Chaz, visiting Grandma and Papa, milk, pancakes and syrup, chicken nuggets and french fries, brushing your teeth, doing things "by myself", making your lunch for school, helping cook, ice cream cones, Daniel Tiger, being held, getting tickled, playing on mama's phone, taking off your clothes and running around naked, and reading.

Things you don't like: Not getting your way, being told no, getting your nails clipped, sitting down to eat, loud noises, being wiped, and being sleepy.

The biggest change in the family has been adding your little sissy, Lottie. You've done very well with this new dynamic in the family. I was really worried about you before she got here! You do get jealous from time to time, and you HATE that she cries loudly. However, we've gotten in a good routine, and you think she's really cute most of the time! You're a great big brother, and I know you two will be great friends!

David, we just love you so very much. You make us smile every day, and we are thankful for the liveliness you bring to this family. You are sweet, fun, strong, brave, and smart. We truly believe God has great things in store for you in your life. We love you little tomato! :)

Some outtakes:
{He looks like he's pointing to the dead crickets I didn't notice until after pictures were taken}

{He blinked, but this is so much him. He has a bruise on his forehead, (thanks to Big Sissy hammering his head in the nursery Sunday), pizza sauce around his mouth, and crazy hair}

{Singing and Swaying :)}

But I Know What It Feels Like

This post is going to be awfully vulnerable and hard for me, but I really want to finally say it out loud. I got permission for my daughter ...
