Monday, Monday, Can't Trust That Day...

Ahh, the Monday after a holiday weekend. There's a 50% chance you'll have lots to do and 50% chance nothing will be going on. Guess which I ended up with? :) That's fine with me. My "vacation" was full of stuff to do so it's nice to just slow down for a moment. Don't get me wrong, I had fun 98% of the time, but we just did so much! Plus, I'm working all day today so I'm hoping this pattern continues all day!

Thursday I had an afternoon shift so I worked around the apartment and packed my stuff before taking the youth to the food pantry, then going to work. After I drove through rush hour traffic, Phil and I ate some dinner, got the apartment in order and headed to Tulsa! When we got there, we played dominoes with the in-laws, then we met Annette and Alicea at Starbucks! It was good to see both of them :) After we had a nice drink, we decided to check out the new casino on Riverside. Oh my! It was all one story and there were slot machines everywhere! Most of the machines were penny machines, (two were even half-penny!), and bingo styled machines. Phil and I donated $10 to the tribe :D Phil worries he'll get bitten by the gambling bug if he doesn't watch out when he's at casinos. I'm so bad at them, I doubt I'll ever get addicted HAHA! It was fun to see it though.

Friday morning, Phil and I drove to KC and had lunch with my parents, aunt and uncle as well as my cousin and her family (two teenage boys and a husband who's still a teenager at heart =P). It was great to see them and just catch up. Plus, I got to tell them Phil and I will be moving up there in the next 2 years! They were excited and very helpful when I asked about school districts and the best areas for house hunting. After that, my parents, Phil and I went to see my Uncle Tom. He's finally home from the hospital and he's doing so well! Apparently, the type of stroke he had only 10% of stroke victims have it and not many survive. In fact, doctors hardly see more than 1 case of this type of stroke at a time. Turns out, a 50 year old man came in and stayed in the room next to my 60-something uncle who suffered the same type Uncle Tom did and he died! That was quite a wake-up call as to how serious it was and how luckily Uncle Tom is to still be with us. We are most thankful! Well, he's walking with a cane, but he is walking which is wonderful! He only has 1 year before retirement and his short-term disability at work is up on July 31st. Well, my aunt wants him to just retire, but he's using it as a goal and he has a great attitude about it. He wants to try and if he succeeds, great. If not, he's not worried about it. I'm so proud of him and glad that he's doing better. I tell you what though, he's a lot more talkative now too ;) After our short visit, (since he needs rest and some of his kids and grandkids were around to keep him busy), we went to the Royals game! Well, in true fashion, they lost. It was a pretty upsetting game, but the new stadium looks great! It started sprinkling during the fireworks and by the time the grand finale started, it was getting heavier. We got to our car pretty quickly considering and then we had to run across town to pick up my brother before going to bed.

Saturday we got up, had breakfast with my aunt Joyce, (yes, I have LOTS of family in the KC area =P), before heading our opposite directions. It was great to see everyone, but I'm looking forward to seeing just my parents when I got up to see them later this month :) Phil and I got to Tulsa about 3:30 and hung out at his parents house before having dinner. We went to his aunt and uncle's house since they live near the river where they have the fireworks. Well, the were not many people there and you could see a big storm rolling in from the west. So the show started early, and Phil and I were listening to Coldplay on my iPod just for something different :) After a few songs, I figured I'd play my Faith Hill version of the "Star Spangled Banner". Once I hit play, we noticed a lot of fireworks were going off and several were going off ON the bridge where they were shooting the fireworks from! Then the fireworks just stopped even though the radio stations were still playing the music and the street lights were still off. After a few minutes, we saw a fire truck pull up slowly, then use the hose in the direction of the fireworks. About that time, the street lights came back on and people started leaving. First of all, no one was hurt luckily :) Secondly, apparently they are set off by a computer system. Well, when one went off, the tube it was launched from caught on fire and set off about 1/3 by accident. The fire truck just hosed down the trailer for safety reasons. Well, apparently the news interviewed some people who decided that, "if no one was hurt, why didn't they just keep going?! That was stupid!". Well my hillbilly friends, if you want to volunteer to light them yourself, be my guest! I think people should just be happy no one was hurt, but oh well. So we got home right before the storm which was good :)

Sunday, we went to church with Phil's folks. After lunch, we went with his mom to see his grandma since it was her birthday! It was nice to see them and they have a cute and chubby dachshund named Snickers! After that we repacked our suitcase and slowly made our way back home. It was definitely good to be there, despite the small mess in the kitchen we found thanks to Petey. At least he didn't throw up or break anything of value. I'll post a picture of the mess once I upload the pictures. I forgot to take the camera on the trip, but I won't forget when I go to Minnesota later this month!

I hope y'all had a fun and safe holiday weekend and that your day back into the daily grind isn't too bad :)

Peace to you.

But I Know What It Feels Like

This post is going to be awfully vulnerable and hard for me, but I really want to finally say it out loud. I got permission for my daughter ...
